CalGames 2025 Rule Changes

Version 1 

CalGames 2025 will be played using the rules in the FRC Game manual with the following modifications:


CG1 – Event organizers may issue YELLOW and RED CARDS or remove teams from the event without refund for team member (student, mentor, parent, chaperone, teacher, coach, etc) egregious conduct violations (including refusal to comply with public health protocols), at the discretion of event organizers.


CG2 –  ROBOT INSPECTIONS. Teams are allowed an extra 5 pounds of weight (up to 120 lbs total) for repairs and modifications. 

Teams will self inspect using FRC PRECHECK: https://precheck.frc.nexus/ 

Event organizers may conduct ad-hoc INSPECTIONS at any time; violations identified must be corrected before the ROBOT can participate in subsequent MATCHES. Teams may be retroactively DISQUALIFIED from past MATCHES for egregious violations that resulted in a competitive advantage.


CG3 –  In general, minor violations of game rules that, in the best judgment of the REFEREES, meet ALL of the below conditions, will not be penalized: 

  • Are accidental 

  • Do not pose a safety hazard 

  • Do not change the difficulty of the game for either ALLIANCE


CG4 – CalGames will be played using the regional ranking point thresholds, reverting the changes made in Team Update 21, and with 3-team alliances with backups.


CG5 – There will be an additional 6-minute field break following Playoff Match 8


CG6 – The 6.3.1.C rule modification from Team Update 17 requiring a HUMAN PLAYER in their PROCESSOR AREA before the match can begin is reverted. ALLIANCES are still responsible for ensuring compliance with G435.


CG7 – Section 6.5.2 - ROBOT Scoring Criteria is modified to add the following:

  • e. ANCHORs if, as perceived by the REFEREE, the contact is inconsequential 

  • f. Components of the ROBOT that, as perceived by the REFEREE, do not provide substantive or material support to the climb
